Kamila Andini menjadi sutradara perempuan pertama Indonesia yang berkompetisi di Berlin International Film Festival (Berlinale) sejak terakhir kali Sofia WD lewat film “Badai Selatan” di tahun 1962. Film terbarunya yang bertajuk “Before, Now, and Then (Nana)” berhasil lolos seleksi untuk masuk di program kompetisi utama Berlin International Film Festival 2022, dan tayang untuk pertama kalinya di muka publik di festival film bergengsi yang sudah digelar sejak tahun 1951 tersebut.

Film “Before, Now, and Then (Nana)” diadaptasi dari salah satu bab dalam roman autobiografi berjudul “Jais Darga Namaku” yang ditulis oleh Ahda Imran. Roman autobiografi tersebut menuturkan perjalanan hidup Jais Darga, perempuan Indonesia pertama yang menjadi art dealer internasional, dan kedekatannya dengan sang ibu, Raden Nana Sunani. Salah satu bab yang menceritakan tentang Raden Nana Sunani itulah yang dikembangkan dan diadaptasi oleh Kamila Andini menjadi film berjudul “Before, Now, and Then (Nana)” ini.
Di film ini aktris Happy Salma yang memerankan sosok Raden Nana Sunani, seorang perempuan yang hidup di daerah Jawa Barat pada era 1960-an. Raden Nana Sunani, yang juga dikenal sebagai Nana, melarikan diri dari gerombolan yang ingin menjadikannya istri dan membuatnya kehilangan ayah dan anak. Ia lalu menjalani hidupnya yang baru bersama seorang menak Sunda hingga bersahabat dengan salah satu perempuan simpanan suaminya (Laura Basuki).
Ini merupakan film biopic pertama Kamila Andini. Kalau biasanya film biopic banyak mengangkat sosok bersejarah yang punya nama besar, sutradara film “Yuni” (2021), “Sekala Niskala” (2017) itu justru ingin memotret sosok Nana dalam versi yang lebih dekat dengan keseharian, mengajak para pemirsa film ini untuk berefleksi lewat berbagai momen dalam kehidupan seorang perempuan.
Film “Before, Now, and Then (Nana)” tayang perdana di Teater Postmer Plast—yang menjadi tempat utama untuk perhelatan Berlinale—pada Minggu (13/2/2022) waktu setempat. Selain plot cerita yang membuatnya menarik, hal lain yang menjadi daya tarik film ini yaitu penggunaan bahasa Sunda di sepanjang ceritanya, sesuai dengan latar tempat diceritakannya film ini.
